You, this is me. How copy?
Hello. We are Joint.
We are a new company, and a new type of company.
BLUF: For military service members and their families, who face outsized personal and financial strain as a result of their service, Joint offers tailored housing with integrated services and the financial benefits of ownership so they can live well and serve better.
Joint blends the best aspects of renting and buying so you can build wealth like a homeowner without sacrificing the flexibility of renting that you need to support your family and career.
We are building a better housing solution for military members and their families. As veterans ourselves, we know the real costs of service and the power of our community to tackle big challenges. Housing is a constant challenge for most folks. It’s even more difficult to manage in the military when you’re moving every couple years, but in this challenge we see an opportunity.
We have created an entirely new model for housing, to make the homes you live in while serving more accessible, more comfortable, and more financially beneficial for military service members.
The result is a community approach to solving housing, leveraging our collective strengths to create new value and deliver it back to our members. The alignment and shared interests of our company and our members drives unified actions to achieve unified goals, which as you know, is what Joint is all about.
We left our jobs and put it all on the line to start Joint because we are obsessed with this idea and believe pursuing this mission is the most important thing we can do right now. It’s how we, as military veterans, continue to serve our country. We are so grateful to our family and community of advisors, partners, and supporters who make this all possible. So let’s get into what Joint is all about.
The Five W’s of Joint.
Why.
Everything starts with why. Why gives us our purpose.
Our purpose is to give our members, associates, and their families the freedom and ability to live well and serve better.
Life in the military is hard, it requires sacrifice, but not just in the obvious ways. The strain and costs of moving every couple years are staggering. It’s hard to save, it’s hard to put down roots, and it’s hard to build for the future when you’re constantly on the move, training, deploying and PCS’ing.
Housing is stressful and expensive for most people in their 20’s and 30’s today, and the added constraints of serving only make it more difficult to get set up well.
We believe our community is our greatest strength.
And we believe that by building and supporting a community to promote unified actions to achieve unified goals, we can make life easier for military members and their families and help them get ahead while serving.
And if we succeed in making the home and the home front better, our members can better serve our country. That’s what it’s all about.
Who.
We’re Joint, or Joint Homes if you're not into the whole brevity thing. Technically, we are Joint Homes, PBC, a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation.
A Public Benefit Corporation is a new type of corporate entity that is formed with a mission to affect a positive impact on society. That means the mission is literally written into the charter documents for the firm. We put together more information about benefit corporations and encourage you to check that out when you get a chance.
We’ve also put together an impact framework to guide our pursuit of impacting positive change and to ensure we are responsive to all of our stakeholders.
Our founders are veterans of the Navy and Army who met in business school after transitioning out of the military. Joint from day one.
Rich Halverson is a Naval Academy grad who served 10 years as an Intelligence Officer. As SEAL Team N2 and with his specialty in collection operations, he ran teams and operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa.
Mel Levey is a West Point grad who served as an Armor Officer, leading troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He ran for Congress in his hometown after getting out before attending business school.
What.
The what is our mission. In order to achieve our purpose, the overall mission is pretty clear.
Our mission is to build and support a strong community to deliver shared value solutions for the challenges of military life.
But what does it look like practically? Like any new company, we’re doing a lot of building.
- We’re building a real estate portfolio of incredible homes that meet the unique needs of military members and their families across their careers,
- We’re building a modern tech platform to streamline housing and relocation so we can deliver a world class experience to our members,
- We’re building a revolutionary financial model that allows our members to build wealth with each monthly payment while renting, and
- We’re building an incredible team with a goal to become the premier employer of military spouses and veterans.
That’s a lot to build. It’s all critical, and it’s all exciting. But it’s all in support of the main effort. The most important thing we’re building is a community.
Where.
We are working to be everywhere our members are.
Our goal is to support military members with housing and services at every stage of their career, anywhere they’re stationed around the U.S. But we need to start somewhere, and where we’re starting is primarily in Texas, North Carolina, and Georgia. In the next 18 months we intend to be up and running in California, Virginia, Washington, and Florida.
If you’re interested in Joint and don’t see places listed in your area, give us a shout. Let us know where you are or where you’ll be and we’ll work to acquire a great property that meets your needs.
We’re serious about that, as we grow and acquire hundreds, then thousands of properties to support our community, we want our members to provide input on the homes we buy. The way we see it, the best way to ensure we’re buying places you really want to live in is to just ask you. Crazy, right?
When.
Now. Like right now.
Big picture, starting right now is critical for a few reasons. We’ll write more about this later, but now is exactly the right moment for us to start, because the need has never been greater and the impact we can create has never been more important.
How.
How do we do it? How does it work? That’s where things get fun.
Take a few minutes to read more about how it works if you’d like. But the easiest thing to do is to sign up and shoot us a note to get in touch, and we’ll walk you through it. We’ve got a lot of building to do, like we said, but we’re here now, standing by ready to help you tackle the challenges of military life at home.
Give us a call and let us see what we can do to help.
